Notice of Race

The Westerleigh Regattas, our two 6 Metre Fleet events which will be held in Vancouver on the weekends of Sept 7/8 and 14/15. We are going to do our very best to make both weekends memorable events for all. If there is anything that we can do to make it easier for you to participate in these events please let us know. In addition to the three 6 metres now sailing here in Vancouver we are expecting between four and six boats from Washington State for a fleet of up to nine boats on the line here in Vancouver.
Here are a few details regarding logistics for the regattas:

We have organized two separate series, with separate awards – one each weekend
Free moorage for 6 Metres and support boats will be available at the RVYC Jericho marina (Tue. September 3rd to Tue. September 17th)
Racing will be held immediately outside the RVYC Marina breakwater. Spectator boats will be available.
RVYC has a 5 Ton hoist suitable for launching 6 Metres with acceptable single point lifting gear. Note: RVYC has new large dry storage dock area but trailer access is limited.
Travel lift launch facilities are available at the Granville Island Boatyard (free towing service for boats will be available from Granville Island to RVYC Jericho- approx. 5 miles)
We have made the trip from Vancouver to Seattle by water many times and we can provide detailed descriptions of the various routes and their advantages. The distance from Port Madison to Vancouver by water is 120 N Miles. You should clear Canadian Customs in either Bedwell Harbour (South Pender Island) or in Vancouver. Going home you can clear customs in Port Townsend (best) or Roche Harbour or Friday Harbour. Let us know if you have any questions regarding the trip.
Our first social and sailors’ briefing is planned for 18:00 to 19:30 Friday September 6th at RVYC Jericho.
No race will be started after 15:00 hrs. on each Sunday.
Entry fee for both regattas will be $50, this includes 5 dinner tickets for competitors for Dinner Saturday night Sept 7th and 5 Banquet tickets for competitors for Saturday Sept. 14th ( extra tickets are available for $15 and $70 respectively).
Limited billeting is available, local hotel accommodations are available starting at around $70 (in Richmond, near the airport about 30 minutes from RVYC Jericho). If you need help with accommodations please let us know.

Please help us to make our final event arrangements by letting us know as soon as possible if you will (or will not) be able to join us in Vancouver. We have to make various reservations for our social events and your early response will help us. We certainly hope that you will be able to make the trip to Vancouver to support the Six Metre fleet through your participation in the Westerleigh Regattas. We promise you an unforgettable event here in Vancouver both on and off the water.
